Public Open House: City of Dixon
The City of Dixon is pleased to announce an opportunity for the community to learn about Brownfields Revitalization and discuss opportunities that may be available in the Dixon area.
A “brownfield site” means real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. In other words, brownfields are properties that are difficult to reuse or sell because of previous uses that occurred on the property, which might have caused soil or groundwater contamination.
The City will be applying for a $400,000 Brownfields Assessment Grant through the United States Environmental Protection Agency. This grant would provide funds to inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct planning (including cleanup planning) and community involvement related to brownfield sites.
“Applying for this grant through the USEPA is another important step in our efforts to improve the quality of life in the Dixon community. If these grant funds are received, we will be able to provide a brownfields program that will help eliminate blight and encourage redevelopment of properties” stated Dixon Mayor Liandro Arellano, Jr.
A community outreach meeting will be held on Thursday, November 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Dixon City Council Chambers located on the 2nd floor of City Hall, 121 West 2nd Street, Dixon, Illinois. The meeting will be an open house format with displays and information available for review and discussion purposes. An informational presentation on brownfields will be presented at 5:30 p.m.
