Career Education Program
Dixon Police Explorer Post 612 is a career education program for young men and women who are currently enrolled in high school. Explorers provides experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults.

Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the organizations in their communities. The Dixon Police Department matches the officers and program resources to the interests of young people in the community to create the Explorer Post. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their interest in law enforcement, grow, and develop. Explorer Post 612 gives members an inside look at the daily operations of the Dixon Police Department.

Started in 2006
The Explorer Post started in February of 2006.  Some of the training that Dixon Police Explorers receive is radio communication, firearm safety, first aid and CPR, conducting traffic stops, building searches, accident investigation, TRT training, DUI enforcement, crime scene investigation, drug enforcement, fingerprinting, DNA for identification purposes, and bike registration. After a probationary period the Explorers are allowed to participate in the Dixon Police Department ride a long program. The Explorers assist the police department with community events, traffic control and many other special projects.
