Borrowers

Library cards are issued free to anyone residing within the Dixon city limits. Proof of current address is required at the time of registration.

Children of preschool age (who can print their first names) through 8th grade may be issued a card, when a parent or guardian also signs the application.

Non-Residents: For those residing outside the Dixon city limits, an annual fee of $75 is charged for a family membership. Individual cards are issued to each member of the family living in the residence.

Non-Resident Taxpayers: A person who resides outside the city but owns property in Dixon may bring in a paid tax bill to receive a library card.

 

Materials

Adult Services – Upper Level: Fiction; Non-Fiction; Large-Print books; Magazines; DVDs; Compact Discs; Audiobooks; reference materials.

Youth Services - Lower Level: Fiction and Non-Fiction for infant through eighth grade level; Magazines; Encyclopedias and other reference materials; Audiobooks.

Online Services

eRead Illinois - a new ebook and e-audio service

NewsBank - Search Sauk Valley Newspapers from 2006-current.

A valid Dixon Public Library card is required to access these services.

Public Access Catalog

The collection is accessible on the library’s catalog computers or remotely from our library webpage.

Local History and Genealogy

Books, maps, indexes, Dixon city directories, census information and the Dixon Telegraph on microfilm from 1851 through 2007 are available. Microfilm printing costs 50 cents per page.

The Director and staff have spent many hours collecting and re-cataloging items from the former History Room in the basement.  Those items are now located in the main adult library.

Lincoln Collection

The Lincoln Collection has been moved from the third floor to the main adult library and is located near the arch window next to the newspaper reading area.

Reagan Collection

Our collection of Reagan books and memorabilia is located to the left of the main entrance of the adult library.

 

Services

Adult Department

Programs for adults are held periodically through the year.

Youth Department

Programs are planned through the year for preschool - 8th grade children.

Test Proctoring

Proctoring services are available for $10 per test and are by appointment only.

Interlibrary Loan

Patrons have access to books, audiobooks, magazine articles, Illinois census microfilm, and activity kits for children.

Computers

Public use computers are located in both Youth and Adult Departments and WiFi Internet access is available throughout the library. (See the Computer Use Policies online or at circulation desks). Dedicated computers for legal, genealogy, tutoring, and career resources are located in the Adult Department.

Printing is available for 20 cents per page for black and white, or 25 cents per page for color printing. Copy machines are available for public use and copies are 20 cents per page.

Fax service is available for $2 for the first page sent or received and $1 for each additional page.

Scanning and emailing documents is available for $2 for the first page sent and $1 for each additional page.

Loan Period

All items are checked out for 14 days. All items may be renewed twice, unless item is on hold for another patron. Items may be renewed by phone or online.

Fines

20 cents per day for books and magazines

20 cents per day for all media (DVDs, CDs, Audiobooks)

50 cents per day for overdue interlibrary loan materials.

$1.00 for unclaimed interlibrary loan materials.
