Lincoln Sharp: 4 Under 40 Award Recipient

Dixon Chamber of Commerce and Main Street (DCCMS) hosted the Best of Dixon Awards Night on Friday, February 9, 2018. This was a night focused on people who go above and beyond through their leadership and community service to make Dixon a better community. Awards include Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, and 4 Under 40.

The City of Dixon is proud to announce that Lincoln Sharp was awarded one of the 4 Under 40 awards.

Dixon Chamber of Commerce and Main Street President Stacey Colledge said, “Since its inception, the Citizen of the Year program has honored individuals who have served our community above and beyond their business or occupation. Last year, the program expanded to included recognition for four young ‘movers and shakers’ in the Dixon area. The Dixon Chamber and Main Street is now in its second year awarding the 4 Under 40 awards.”

Candidates for 4 Under 40 recognition must be under 40 years old and live or work in Dixon or the immediate area. Candidates were chosen by a committee based on their outstanding career achievements and local community impact. Categories considered included: Career achievements, special awards and recognition, community involvement and volunteerism.  Colledge said, “These four award recipients have distinguished themselves in their professional field or organization, are engaged citizens, and demonstrate leadership by volunteering their time and talents to community groups and causes.”  Officer Sharp was chosen by the awards committee for his creation of the Dixon Police Department Twitter account.

Officer Sharp and the Dixon Police Department Twitter account became known nationally and internationally following Sharp’s idea to engage Dixon kids and their friends in water gun wars.  These water gun fights were captured on video and publicized on Twitter and Facebook.  Parents had to direct message Sharp on Twitter with a photo of their kids armed with water guns.  From there officers were dispatched to their homes and the water fights ensued.  In addition to Twitter, more than 15 million people watched the videos of the water gun fights on the police department’s Facebook page.

City Manager Danny Langloss said, “Lincoln has been a dynamic part of the Dixon Police Department. He realizes the importance of service and developing strong relationships with our community.  His initiative and progressiveness to create the Dixon Police Twitter Account is nothing short of phenomenal.  He has reached superstar status on Twitter and is helping change the narrative surrounding law enforcement, not only in Dixon, but for the entire profession.”  In addition to his daily work on Twitter, Officer Sharp is a Designated Officer In Charge of a Patrol Shift, a Field Training Officer, and a member of the Joint Operations Group SWAT team.

Congratulations Lincoln!
